That’s Dope! The Focusrights

That’s Dope! is an ongoing segment where I recommend things that I think are dope. Bands, videos, movies, tv shows, whatever. For the first entry ever, let’s look at The Focusrights.

The Focusrights are a mathcore band with a strong electronic component, easily dipping them into cybergrind territory, but that doesn’t even begin to fully describe their sound. Their newest release Ew, Music! is chaotic, diverse, and full of energy. I also love the album art and title. That’s honestly what originally drew me to check them out, because I love when aggressive bands still know how to have fun. That said, don’t let the MS Paint looking cover fool you, because there’s nothing amateurish about their production quality.

Speaking of which, check out this absolutely WILD music video for When WIll the Kingdom of God COme? that they just released. It totally matches the frenetic energy of the music as well as their tongue in cheek nature. If you feel it, I’d strongly recommend giving the full release a listen. I’m not going to give a beat by beat review here, because it’s only 15 or so minutes long and discovering all of the sharp 90 degree pivots they take musically for yourself is part of the charm.

Anyway, that’s it. The Focusrights are dope and I’m looking forward to whatever they have coming next. You can listen to Ew, Music! on Spotify or buy it on Bandcamp.
